Working with A Deity?
Hello,
This will be a more personal blog post rather than the informative ones I normally write.
Over the past couple of months, I’ve been feeling a little lost in my practice, as though something is missing. I work full-time with really long days, so it can be hard to maintain a regular practice. I’ve been trying to find ways to make a simple practice that I can keep up with. Whilst I was trying out different ideas for a simple routine I could do, I kept feeling a pull towards working with a deity.
Working with deities isn’t something that I have ever done before, and to be honest, I had no clue where to start or what to do. So I asked for help on threads, and I had some really good suggestions,
Do a tarot reading and see what cards you pull that are associated with a deity
sit and meditate to see if one reaches out
look for signs around you that could be associated with a deity
reach out to a deity that you really would like to work with.
Where I Started
I started with a tarot reading; I just used the major arcana for this. In my first reading, I pulled Knight of Cups, which can represent Boann and Death, which represent the Morrigan. The second reading I pulled the King of Pentacles, which represents the Horned God or Cernunnos and Death again.
Side note - I had already decided that I wanted to work with the Celtic Pantheon, mainly because I am Welsh and I feel the strongest connection to this particular pantheon.
I sat with this reading for a while, and I felt a strong pull to Boann, who is a river Goddess of the river Boyne in which is in Ireland. Upon further research, I found that she was similar to Sabrina, the Goddess of the River Severn, which is a river that is quite close to me.
I’m not going to lie, working with the Morrigan feels quite daunting to me. I don’t feel as much of a pull to work with her as I do with one of the River Goddesses, but there is still a little niggle in the background.
One Goddess whom I have been thinking about a lot is Elen of Ways. I had done some research on her in the past, but for some reason, her name randomly popped into my head a couple of weeks ago.
Who did I choose?
I will be completely honest and say that working with multiple deities right now isn’t really going to work for me at this moment in time. I’m going to concentrate on building a relationship with the one who seems to be most prominent at the moment, and that is Sabrina.
The reason is that I think about her the most, and whenever I am out at the moment, I always seem to find my way to a river. I know this isn’t going to happen overnight, and it will probably take me a while to build a relationship, but I am excited to see where this leads.
